Robin Roberts Heads New ABC News Studio Production Unit – VIBE.com

Robin Roberts has been appointed as head of a new production unit for ABC News Studios. On Tuesday (Sept. 19), Deadline reported that the news anchor will lead a staff that will help produce nonfiction specials, series, and documentaries for Hulu and Disney+.

The 62-year-old — who already has her own production company, Rock’n Robin TV — stated that she will be expanding her portfolio by focusing on “heartfelt storytelling that reveals the mosaic of humanity.”

Upon the launch of the new production unit, Roberts will sit down with Kerry Washington for an interview about her memoir, Thicker Than Water.

The primetime special edition of 20/20 will air on Sunday (Sept. 23) at 10 P.M. ET on ABC.

Outside of Roberts’ busy life on the news, she recently tied the knot with her longtime girlfriend Amber Laign earlier this month. The couple first met on a blind date in 2005 and announced their engagement during a January taping of Good Morning America this year.

“I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet… I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage,” Roberts said while on the air. “We’re getting married this year. It was something we had talked about but we had put it off, [Laign] became ill but… it is saying ‘yes’ to that next chapter.”

Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2022, however that hasn’t stopped the couple from making appearances together here and there, and advocating for LGBTQ+ causes.
